Couples counselling at LoveAlive Counselling in Nelson BC is a supportive space where both partners are heard, respected, and guided with care. Whether you're navigating conflict, disconnection, life transitions, or simply wanting to deepen your connection, we tailor the process to meet your unique relationship needs.
Sessions typically begin with:
- Exploring what each partner is hoping to gain from counselling
- Identify vision and goals for what you as a couple hope to achieve
- Understanding current challenges, communication styles, and dynamics
- Identifying patterns that may be keeping you stuck or disconnected
From there, your therapist will help you:
- Build practical tools for communication, empathy, and emotional safety
- Navigate difficult topics with curiosity instead of blame
- Work experientially with you to help you both experience deeper understanding and connection
- Reconnect to shared values, needs, and intimacy
- Create space for healing past hurts and strengthening your attachment bond
Most couples start with weekly or biweekly sessions, adjusting the rhythm as growth, and clarity develop. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit - many couples use counselling as a proactive tool for long-term relationship health.
LoveAlive Counselling centers respect, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work. Practicing from an anti-oppressive framework in counselling means we actively recognize and address how societal inequalities and systemic marginalization affect your mental health and wellbeing, tailoring our approach to create a safe, supportive space that respects your unique experiences.
As Counsellors, we thoughtfully reflect on our own privileges and the power dynamics present in therapy. This encourages us to stay aware of how our perspectives influence the therapeutic relationship and to create a safe, welcoming space where your full identity and experience - including gender, sexuality, race, religion, culture, socioeconomic background, neurodiversity, body, ability - and all aspects of who you are - is truly seen, honored, and valued.
Our approach is culturally sensitive and trauma-informed, designed to meet your unique needs with compassion and collaboration.
We're committed to offering a robust program of sliding scale fees, helping to reduce financial barriers to care.
We kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your counselling session. This allows us to offer the appointment time to other clients. If less than 48 hours’ notice is given, or if you don’t show up for your scheduled session without notifying us, the full session fee will be charged. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation, as this policy helps us maintain quality care for all clients.
